We all know that any effective internet marketing campaign begins with thorough keyword research. After all, if you don’t know what people are searching for, you can’t give it to them.
In the beginning of the internet webmasters pretty much had to guess as to what people typed in to the search box. Later, with the rise of Google, it became easier to find out. And then several years ago, Wordtracker came on the scene to provide more information on given keywords.
For internet marketing purposes there are several areas of keyword research that these two two tools leave out. In many cases it’s not simply enough to know the exact keyword and the daily number of searches. That’s where the new keyword research tool from Tim Godfrey and Steven Clayton comes in. It’s called Keyword Blueprint and I’ve been using it now for about 3 months.
What it is: Keyword Blueprint comes as a software program that you can download directly to your computer as a member of IM Advantage. Once you’ve got it loaded you’re ready to go.
How to use it: The interface is clear and easy to understand. Like other keyword tools you simply plug in you seed keyword term. Keyword Blueprint then returns a list of relevant keyword phrases. Included in the data is the number of daily searches which you can sort from descending to ascending and vice versa.
Now here’s where the tool gets interesting. Next to each keyword there is an evaluation check box. If you want to determine whether or not a certain keyword has value in terms of internet marketing, you simply click it. Once you’ve clicked all the terms you want to evaluate you simply click “go” and wait. Keyword Blueprint looks at various criteria including the number of competing pages, the daily searches and more to determine the value of the keywords you chose. It then returns a score. A red X means that it would be very hard to compete for that term in terms of ranking in the Search Engines. A yellow star means that the term is easy to compete for. Green checks also give you the green light for building a site around a certain search term.
The software allows you to save searches and update them later.
How I use it: So far I’ve used Keyword Blueprint to discover keywords in several niches that I was already working in. Using it, I was able to find some gold star search terms that I’ve used to boost traffic to my sites. It would have cost me hours of research to discover them on my own.
Overall value rating: What I love about Keyword Blueprint is that the analysis of search term worth is done for me. Using the tool, I don’t have to try to figure out if a certain term is actually possible to compete for in SEO terms. That alone saves a tremendous amount of time. If this program weren’t available as part of the IM Advantage, I’d definitely purchase it.
Keyword Blueprint is available as part of the IM Advantage program.
